At the end of 2017, my husband I began to get baby fever. My twin sister had just given birth to a set of boy/girl twins and Torey and I started thinking about giving Parker a sibling for various reasons. In February 2018, I found out I was pregnant and naturally I started thinking about what I wanted this new baby’s nursery to look like. I knew for sure that the second time around I wanted a simple, modern, elegant and as always functional space. With our first daughter, Parker, we went all out with her nursery, everything was Disney and baby themed and so literal. In retrospect it wasn’t my style at all and through the years my style has evolved into a more mature yet practical look and feel. Nurseries can be elegant and cohesive with the rest of your home and in fact they should be, the transition from one room to a nursery should be smooth and effortless and that was my goal in creating the perfect nursery for Baby Pugh #2. Our baby girl, who we named Scout, after the endearing tomboyish protagonist in the novel “To Kill a Mocking Bird” needed the perfect space to explore and learn. I knew for sure that I wanted to incorporate a navy accent wall in my home and for the longest time I didn’t know where but I decided to do it in Scout’s nursery because it serve as an unexpected pop of color with the blush accents throughout. Im sure a lot of you are thinking why use blue when you were expecting a girl, well for me I don’t think color should ever be limited to gender. Blue is such a bold and strong color and is known to have positive affects on the mind. Blue can also represent tranquility and produce calming feelings. I envisioned Scout to be bold and strong and a peaceful baby and she certainly is all of we expected. Not only this, but I was and am obsessed with Scout Finch and I always thought about decorating this nursery from a “tomboy chic” perspective. The nursery I created for Scout is the perfect blend of nature, femininity, with a very slight masculine touch. When it came to furniture started off with a simple shaker style crib from Pottery Barn Kids in the color Acorn. I opted for a neutral accent chair from Pier 1 for those late nights I would spend up with Scout, I didn’t choose a rocker as a I previously did with Parker because I really wanted simplicity and the dimensions of Scout’s room really didn’t lend itself to a bulky rocking/glider chair. I always loved Ikea’s Hemnes dresser and used it previously in my daughter Parker’s room. It comes in several different shades but I opted for white, I switch out the knobs based on the look I want and it creates magic. Honestly, you can’t even tell that Parker and Scout have the same dressers because interchanging the knobs creates completely different looks. The other great thing about the Hemnes dresser is that it will only set you back $249.99 that means if your child happens to lets say color on it with permanent marker you will hardly be upset (well maybe a little), but its not an expensive piece that will have you crying in agony if it gets damaged. This dresser also can easily be transformed with a little chalk paint if your little one happens to cause any damage to it. With all this in mind ,I was able to create a nursery that can easily be transformed and altered as Scout grows older. I added a few accent pieces and wallah a perfect effortless nursery all for under $1000.00.
