Christmas is a special time for me. Its magical. Although I’m a woman well into my 30’s I feel like a kid all over again when the Holiday season arrives. Every Black Friday I get in gear to start decorating my home for Christmas, its honestly what I live for as far as Interior Decorating goes. I consider Christmas time, the Super Bowl of Interior Decorating. It’s the time where I feel I can get most creative and fun.
Last year, my husband and I choose to go really traditional. We used tartan print and our entire tree was decorated in red bows and ornaments. In previous years, we chose a more neutral palette of ivory, gold and silver to compliment the décor already in our home.
This year, I challenged myself a bit to go with a style that was a little more rustic, woodsy and provincial. Because I love gold, (I mean isn’t it clear) I also stayed true to my design style and slipped in some gold here and there. I wanted my décor this year to feel less glam and a little more laid back. I used a lot of deer this year in my décor, I always do but this year I used A LOT. Deer remind me of the woods and I def wanted the feel of being in a cabin. To get this cabin-like feel, I used green, brown, and ivory. I mixed woods (which I love to do) to give an elevated yet care-free vibe.
I was able to bring this woodsy look together pretty well, making purchases at Target, a few of my local Home Goods stores, Pottery Barn and Kirkland’s. We purchased a new Christmas tree from Hobby Lobby, which was needed because our previous tree’s lights went out. Our new tree stands 12 ft tall and I’m in love with it. To start decorating the tree, I pick a basic ornament set and make all my other décor choices center around whatever colors are in the set. This helps with consistency and makes Holiday décor look less junky and more cohesive.
To top off the look, I purchased live garland from a local Christmas tree farm. I use it every year to decorate the fireplace mantle and the formal dining room table. It adds something special and the smell gives me all the Holiday feels.
I had an amazing time decorating for Christmas this year. It truly lifted my spirits and I literally walk around my home singing Christmas carols all day admiring all my hard work (well Torey’s too)
