Torey who periodically has some decor requests that I try to honor suggested that we do a “Classic Christmas” look this year. The first thing that came to my mind was the color red, now I don’t hate red but it isn’t necessarily my “go to” for Holiday decor even though the color red almost seems obligatory to use when decorating for this festive season. Right away I started thinking of Ralph Lauren Holiday ads, tartan, gold and of course red and lots of it. Torey and I had purchased some red ornaments from target the day after Christmas about 3 years ago (I highly suggest you do this if you plan on changing your Christmas decorations every year) and all decorations were 75% off. We purchased what seems like hundreds of assorted red ornaments and red ribbons, at the time I honestly had no plans of ever decorating with them. I solely purchased them because they were a steal, and by steal I mean we probably got over 200 ornaments for no more than $30.
I previously used a lot of gold and ivory in my Christmas decor (and my home decor in general) and I absolutely loved the simplicity of it. I have a very neutral, simple aesthetic , and while I love adding a pop of color in home decor I usually try to stay true to my design style even if its Christmas. While I was somewhat apprehensive to oblige my husband’s design request, I took it as an opportunity to rev up my design skills. I had fun doing it, from the reading room, to our formal dining room, to the fireplace mantle we turned the heat all the way up (no pun intended). Most things were sourced from our local Home goods, Target, Pottery Barn, Pier 1 and believe it or not The Christmas tree store. Every year I purchase fresh garland from a Christmas tree farm to add to our mantle and dining room table, it gives our home that Christmas smell and serves as a pretty beautiful decorative accent. Thanks to my husband, this year was honestly the most beautiful my home has been during the holiday season. Below are some pictures from previous years and this year, you be the judge!
