As I look around my home I can count fourteen vases that I have utilized in various ways and spaces to create a special look and feel to my home. This might seem overwhelming to some but I can assure you the use of each vase is purposeful and carefully thought out. Vases are probably my favorite design accessory and their importance in designing a space is commonly overlooked. However, vases can provide a huge impact in a room and are frankly the most cost effective yet impactful décor piece. Vases are functional and pretty to look at and can really elevate your design space. I consider vases as sort of a statement necklace for your home. They can add that “pop” or “wow” factor to an otherwise plain space. I currently dedicate three small vases to hold flowers which I replace weekly and routinely post on my personal social media pages. These vases are intentionally glass and transparent, since I utilize these vases for floral arrangements I like the flowers to be the center of attention not the vase, these vases serve a functional purpose only.
Vases provide height, dimension, color, and can also bring a feeling of nature into your home. Vases also come in a variety of finishes (ceramic, glass, porcelain, metal and wood) which makes them easy to place in any space regardless of design style. Since I have a very modern and clean aesthetic, one thing I like to do is use a large floor vase and add birch sticks or faux leaves to it. This design technique breaks up the monotony of clean modern design while also providing a nice natural touch. My favorite vase in my home, is a thin blue and off-white vase which compliments the artwork on my mantel PERFECTLY. When I found this vase, I was over the moon, it’s almost like the painting and the vase were made for each other. The vase compliments the bold canvas print so well that I will never change it. Its literally the first vase I bought for this house and has a lot of sentimental value to me. I also thank God that it sits so high up on the mantel that I never have to worry about one of the little Pugh girls breaking it (***crosses fingers***).
In my reading room alone, I’ve placed three vases on the wall to wall shelves. Each uniquely different in height, shape, size and color but come together extremely well to create a very chic and sophisticated look. I was purposeful to place a small vase on top of some books to give height and place a larger grey textured vase on the very top shelf to give a dramatic statement to the wood shelves.
I could go on and on with how I’ve used vases in my home but the proof is here! Check out various ways in which I’ve used vases and don’t forget to consider grabbing a vase for that empty corner or the underwhelming coffee table!
